According to Iggulden the reason why Jamukha was removed was that he felt he wasn't that important, and to avoid the Russian book syndrome' where every page seems to bring a character with a funny name until you haven't a clue who anyone is. Man was a important figure in Temujin's life and would have made for a good conflict, though one could argue its a cliche, but hey, I like those kind of stories. For those unaware who Jamukha is, he's Temujin's (Genghis' birth name) childhood friend and blood brother, whose bond is broken over a power struggle to who will become khan of the unified Mongol tribes. He is the author of Stormbird and Margaret of Anjou, the first two books in his superb. Conn Iggulden is one of the most successful authors of historical fiction writing today.
